In order to help our children feel safe and happy at the Carrot Patch in this unprecedented time. 1. We will take cues from your children. If and when questions or concerns arise, we will respond in an age-appropriate way. We will be honest, clear and answer simply. We will not overload with information and will keep you informed about any worries or misconceptions your children may articulate. Our message, as always, is that it is safe to talk with a teacher. Feel free to ask your child's teacher for any additional information, such as specific terms we use at school.
Explore our airy and spacious, well-equipped preschool building! And our engaging, professionally designed and landscaped playscape is open for play and exploration. Monday-Friday, Monday/Wednesday/Friday, or Tuesday/Thursday. Program hours are 7:30 a.m. Summer Sessions: Preschoolers through rising first-graders can enjoy our outstanding program all summer long, run by our regular degreed teaching staff! The Carrot Patch-Shoreline provides an individualized inquiry-based program, learning through play.
The toddler program at the Carrot Patch is comprised of two groups: the transitional toddlers and the older toddlers. Each classroom offers an appropriate balance of structured activities that allow children to learn new skills with plenty of free play that fosters creativity, individual expression, and positive peer interactions. The curriculum is based largely on nature themes that are innately fascinating to our little ones. Daily experiences such as creative art, sensory, music and movement, dramatic play, blocks, science, pre-math, puzzles and other manipulative materials abound.
We are proud to say that every one of our classroom teachers--Infants through Preschool--holds a Bachelors or Masters Degree, and many are credentialed public school teachers with early elementary-level experience. Our Staff Developer has over 40 years experience in all aspects of early childhood education and works closely with our professional teaching staff. We offer an individualized, emergent curriculum featuring a nature-based inquiry approach. We use the place-based Bank Street educational model to focus on the child's familiar environment as a base for their growing awareness and understanding of the larger world.
Developing secure and trusting relationships is a primary task for infants. Warm, experienced teachers foster this trust through frequent physical contact, sensitive responses to infants' signals, and mutual delight in interactions. Infants are provided visual and tactile stimulation, exposure to language and literature, and ample opportunities for gross motor activity. A variety of music and art/sensory experiences round out the daily experience for our youngest students. Infants at the Carrot Patch in Hamden enjoy the wealth of snuggling, tummy time, and exploration permitted by having two caring teachers with a maximum enrollment of five infants.
