Our preschool admission process begins in November with our Annual Open House. Our Open House provides families to meet parents and teachers and learn more about our programs. After our open house, parents can schedule a follow up visit with their child for a half hour visit during a school morning. This visit will give parents the opportunity to see their child in our environment and to ask more specific questions of the classroom teachers. References are made available after this visit. After meeting with our admissions staff, parents should complete and return an preschool admissions application with the $80 registration fee.
Children's Happy Day School offers four distinct NAEYC accredited preschool programs. Each program offers a curriculum rich in literature, play and learning activities designed to maximize a child's sense of wonder and exploration. We enrich our programs with music, creative dance, Spanish, yoga and many field trips. We have been enriching the minds & nurturing the spirits of children from Boston and the neighboring communities of Newton, Brookline, Dedham, Westwood and Needham since 1987.
Our Pre K/Kindergarten accredited program raises the learning bar for children as they prepare to leave Happy Day and enter kindergarten. Our advanced accredited program continues to support social and emotional growth while guiding children to learn new and more challenging concepts throughout the year. We aim to strengthen and reinforce self-sufficiency in the school setting, and give each child opportunities to show independence. Our goals are to provide children with the skills they need to work alongside others and develop their curiosity to be life-long learners.
Our Pre-Kindergarten preschool class is a bridge between our preschool and Pre-K/ Kindergarten programs. The Pre-Kindergarten integrative curriculum is literature based and supports Piaget's theory that a child's curiosity drives learning. Open ended exploration combined with activities such as guided/shared reading, journals, problem solving, reasoning and observation are incorporated into the curriculum. Pre-reading skills and phonemic awareness and writing skills are introduced through the Harcourt Language Arts program and the Handwriting Without Tears program.
Our summer camp program runs for 8 weeks and is full of fun, educational experiences! Children have the opportunity to be part of different classrooms and mixed age groups, enjoying experiences with new friends within the comfort of a familiar setting and routine. Under the cool shade of our tents, children can enjoy many outdoor activities. There are wading pools and water tables and outdoor art centers. All summer long, children work in the garden-watering, weeding, examining the plants for growth and changes.
