We believe that warm affectionate, experienced teachers should guide, encourage and nurture each child's curiosity, potential, and growth. We believe that the environment should provide cognitive stimulation and rich language experiences. We believe that the curriculum should provide intentional instruction based on individual assessment. We believe that the family - school relationship should include respect, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
A part time option is available for three- and four-year-olds. Children may attend MWF, TTh or M-F from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. We also offer a Preschool Plus option which allows children to remain at school until 1:30 PM one or two days per week. This program runs from September through May. Children may not combine this program with regular or occasional full-time-care. The Creative Afterschool Program (CAP) is available to children enrolled in kindergarten through 5th grade. Classes are offered before and after school; full days during elementary school closings that do not coincide with CB holidays; full days in the summer.
The CAP summer day camp programs for school age children offers a wealth of enrichment. Our teachers facilitate and guide activities, making sure that summer fun time is also providing unique learning experiences. On Fridays, we run through the sprinklers and have water activities such as slip 'n slide and water balloon volleyball. On Thursday afternoons, the children are given the option of participating in movie day, complete with popcorn and special snacks. Bi-Weekly Units: Rocks and Volcanoes, Rain Forests/Ecology, Ship Ahoy, Shadows and Light, Paper and Pencil Fun, Americana, Go Team, Travel to Middle Ages, Journey into Space, Mystery, Messy Art in the Park, On Stage, Survivor, Tall Tales, Is It Magic or Science?
Eager to achieve socially and academically while expanding their knowledge of the world, 5- to 11-year-olds seek new challenges, close friendships, and increasing responsibilities. Our goal is to provide a safe environment where each child is fully supervised inside and outside. Looking out at the CAP playground, one is reminded of an old fashioned neighborhood. Children of all ages are playing together. Some are playing pick-up games of soccer or basketball. There is a group in the back corner sweeping the ground with leaves and polishing acorns to improve their "fort."
When they are able to creep and crawl, our infants are ready for toddler activities so our Toddler Program is all about creating experiences that are active, sensory-based and meaningful. Our teachers lead young toddlers through age-appropriate activities to improve coordination and increase verbal and problem-solving skills. Our curriculum is based on the idea that children are naturally curious and motivated to learn. Our teachers get to know each child, learn their interests and plan developmentally appropriate, engaging activities.
Creative Beginnings is a private preschool and child care center serving children from infancy through 5th grade. Your child will be with the same two teachers every day. In our center-based program, teachers design learning centers to reflect monthly curriculum topics. Within the structure of the learning centers, the children are free to choose their play. Your child will spend much of the day in the learning centers. The teacher's job is to facilitate the learning centers: to help children choose a place to work; to expand the children's skills in each play center; to help children to complete their work; to insure that children clean up when finished.
Responsive, language-rich attention is essential for the optimal development of your infant and our program is planned to meet this need. Individual schedules, a loving caregiver, a day full of hugs and kisses and slow, leisurely caretaking activities make each day special. Parents and the primary caregiver establish a personal care plan that is continually updated to ensure that care routines are personalized. Very young babies spend time each day with their primary caregiver. Every sound and movement of the baby is met with a warm response: a word, a smile, a touch that signals, "You are special."
