From Our Website
Philosophy: Our philosophy is to foster every child's learning ability by providing a wide range of open-ended experiences that encourage the children to become capable learners and to grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. The children are loved, cared for, and nurtured to help them reach their full potential. Founded in 1926, it continues to advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession, and it supports all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.
At Friends, we have created the Healthy Childhood Initiative to emphasize our commitment to the healthy physical growth and development of the children. Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 17% of children and adolescents ages 2-19 are obese. But the good news is that the obesity rate for children ages 2-5 decreased significantly from 2003 to 2012. That means it is possible to make a difference by promoting exercise and good nutrition!
At Friends, we value communication, cooperation, and collaboration with all parents and families. In addition to daily verbal communication, we also provide regular written notes and newsletters that keep you updated on your child's activities. Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year, but our teachers are available at any time to address any questions or concerns. We recognize families as being of primary importance in children's development, and as such, we respect and welcome your input.
There are many reasons for choosing a career, but one of the most powerful is that you want to make a real difference in the lives of children. By joining our team at Friends, you can do just that! The state of Indiana requires all employees to have a physical and a TB inoculation on file before employment begins. The Secretary of Health and Human Services has determined that certain diseases, including hepatitis A, salmonella, shigella, staphylococcus, giardia and complyobacter may prevent you from serving or handling food in a sanitary fashion.
A recent parenting study from the Pew Research Center found that, despite beliefs or education or race, a lot of parents want the same things for their children: responsibility, hard work, helping others, good manners, independence, creativity, empathy for others, tolerance, persistence, and curiosity. From infants to school age, we provide daily opportunities for children to develop these important traits. We accept infants from 6 weeks to 12 months on a full-time basis. Every baby is given consistent and personal attention from our dedicated and loving staff.
