Maple Dene is a school of the 21st century, built upon values and practices found in the traditional country school: where older and younger kids work and play together in a spirit of cooperation, and where caring is at the middle of everything we do. Founded by Robert D. Vieira and Patricia Kenneally, the Preschool and Child Care Center opened as The Moppet School in 1984.

Maple Dene is a six-acre parcel of land that consists of a two-acre playground, sports field and meadow, along with four acres of wooded hills, wetlands, and a brook. Both the developed aspects of the land and its natural qualities are used as a learning environment and outdoor classroom to enrich the curriculum with outdoor activities and adventures. All of the buildings at Maple Dene provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere for learning. Design and renovations have been carried out to develop an optimal environment of structural quality and educational purpose.
Maple Dene and Moppet School has had the pleasure of providing Kindergarten for children and their families since 1987. Over the years, many Kindergarteners have experienced the welcoming atmosphere where every child's abilities, interests, and contributions are truly valued. From day one, our Kindergarteners develop a sense of belonging and confidence through being accepted and empowered to work and play. This is education and learning at its best! Your child's Kindergarten year is the beginning to his or her formal education.
Before and after school care provides a relaxing and recreational time. Following Maple Dene's expectations of being Safe, Friendly, and Responsible, appropriate behavior is promoted within the context of respect for one another. Child care is available before and after Maple Dene Elementary School at the rate of $4.00 per hour. Care is offered from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and during days that the Elementary School is closed e.g.
Besides projects focused around exciting themes for Pioneers (ages 6-12) and Explorers (ages 4-6), there are water activities (including cooling off on our 100-foot waterslide), picnics, scavenger hunts, sandcastle building, sing-a-longs, and more for all of our campers. We also enjoy fun-filled days like 'hat day', ice cream socials, and games of capture-the-flag. Pioneers can experience the joy and learn the fundamentals of archery through fun-filled activities that have helped sharpen the skills of archers throughout the ages.
