From Our Website

Our Early Childhood Education program is accredited by the National Association for the Education Young Children (NAEYC) and our Summer Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Newark Day Nursery and Children's Center reaffirms our commitment to treating every individual with dignity and respect. We recognize that African Americans and all people of color have endured racism, violence, and inequality for far too long. We stand in support of justice and firmly against what we have recently witnessed, acts that nobody should ever endure.

Newark Day Nursery and Children's Center was founded in 1961 serving only 5 children, and has grown to a center serving 180 children daily. It began from the vision of several citizen-activists who saw an unmet need of working families for both high quality and affordable child care. Through milestones such as acceptance as a United Way of Delaware agency, achieving the first of several national accreditations, and acquiring a 5 acre facility for expansion, their vision has led to thousands of children being served.

Newark Day Nursery's Early Childhood Education curriculum is based on the Delaware Early Learning Foundations framework (ELFS) in conjunction with The Creative Curriculum, the Teaching Strategies Gold assessment tool (TSG), and the Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ-3). These research based tools helps educators and families work together to improve our young children's development in the areas of social emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, and math skills. Family conferences for the ECE children are conducted at least twice per school year to set goals and review child's growth.

Children enjoy special music, movement, fitness, computer learning, cultural arts, financial literacy and other community enrichment opportunities, offered in part due to our generous sponsors and community partners. Families can participate in our Annual Picnic, Annual Meeting & Children's Art Show, our group march in the Newark Halloween Parade and other events. Older children in the School Age program enjoy field trips to places such as museums, area farms, cultural institutions and amusement parks.

For those of you looking to make a positive contribution to your community, we have a wonderful opportunity! The Newark Day Nursery and Children's Center Board of Directors has openings which it is seeking to fill. The current Board is a very dedicated group who look forward to welcoming new members wanting to share in NDNCC's mission. If you have knowledge/expertise in the areas of accounting, development, facilities, finance, marketing, public relations or early childhood education, we would be especially interested in hearing from you.

School aged children ages 6-14 can attend our summer camp program for one week or all summer, with parents choosing the weeks they need. For campers spending the warm summer months at our five acre property, we offer a fun, active atmosphere. Our program is primarily recreational in nature, however we plan themes, events, and projects to support children's need for summer learning.

NDNCC provides full-time infant care for children starting at the age of 6 weeks. Our focus is on meeting the special and individual needs of each infant. We build strong nurturing relationships with infants and their families by creating routines, learning differences and embracing individuality. Our trained teachers grasp the significance of your baby's first year of life. We work together as a team to meet the needs of each child, creating an environment for constant learning. Consistent, nurturing relationships with the same staff members, including primary ones, early in life and throughout childhood are the stepping stones of both social-emotional and intellectual growth.
