Sarah's Day Care in Lafayette, Louisiana has been owned by June and Jody Aycock since 1989. June and Jody both earned degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Jody has served on the advisory board for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for Child and Family Studies. He has also served on the Louisiana Advisory Committee on Licensing of Child Care Facilities and Child Placing Agencies, as well as many other regional boards in the field of child care and education. It is our belief that play is the work of childhood!
We currently accept students from L. Leo Judice by public school bus drop-off each afternoon. Students from Prairie Elementary are picked up and dropped off at Sarah's Daycare each morning and afternoon. We provide transportation from Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School each afternoon. There is also a bus that stops in the morning and afternoon for students who attend the Academy of the Sacred Heart and St. John Berchmans School. When the children arrive at The Big House the roll is taken, book bags are put up and snack is eaten.
Our curriculum centers around a weekly themed unit and consists of a daily art project, language arts discussion, music, movement, and book planned for each age group. Curriculum and daily schedules are posted in each classroom. Gerami's Academy of Fine Arts transports children ages 3-5 years to their studio on Bertrand each Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Theses students will be instructed in 30 minutes each of tap, ballet, and tumbling. These classes are on a first come, first come basis only.
At The Big House (TBH) we try to pack each summer with a mix of field trips, weekly art projects, group games, outdoor play, and other activities including water slides, a shaving cream fight, and a visit from the Kona Ice Truck! Our summer program encourages social learning through peer interaction in a mixed aged group environment, and promotes motor skills through outdoor play.
