Alternatives for Children follows The Creative Curriculum. This curriculum allows our teachers and therapists to utilize best practices as well as developmentally appropriate practices for each child. The Creative Curriculum is an extensive curriculum based on research and theory of child development. Throughout the school year, children explore a variety of studies through first-hand exploration and discovery. Since 1988 Alternatives For Children, a not-for-profit private school, has been at the forefront in providing educational experiences to a broad spectrum of children from across Long Island.
The birth of a child is meant to be a time filled with anticipation, joy and excitement. While we all hope this journey takes us down a straight and narrow path, unfortunately, sometimes there are bumps in the road, or the road takes an unexpected turn. Having a place families can turn to when everything else seems to be falling apart helps make the journey less difficult. For the past twenty-seven years, Alternatives for Children has been a stop on the journey for over 15,000 children from across both Suffolk and Nassau Counties.
To provide the highest quality special and regular education programs and services to children with disabilities and typically developing peers. Education, medical, pediatric rehabilitation, and support services are integrated to ensure the comprehensive needs of the child and family are met. In line with its mission, Alternatives For Children's overarching philosophy reflects our longstanding commitment to children, their individual needs, and our own high standards; assuring that children and their families have the tools and experiences necessary to build the foundation that will support them for the rest of their lives.
